Multimodality

The concept of multimodality was developed by Prof. Schuler and is defined by the measurement and combination of the three methodological approaches of psychological assessment:

1. Personality traits, shown to be linked to career success, e. g. intelligence, achievement motivation, integrity and social competence.

2. Work behavior, identified by qualitative and quantitative job analyses and simulated in the form of work samples or assessment centers.

3. Biographical data referring to previous work experience, behavioral and performance-related outcomes, hence making it possible to draw conclusions about the chances of future job performance.

Applying these three approaches, it is possible to collect a complete and valid record of an individual's relevant competencies and to differentiate them from unimportant characteristics. Multimodality is achieved by combining valid written and interactive instruments and by the development of instruments that combine these three approaches.
